Why Shift?
Health data is fragmented. Privacy is overlooked. The rules are outdated. Shift is building a better way — one that centers patients, respects communities, and ensures data is shared with purpose and protection.
Shift is the independent health care collaborative dedicated to advancing safe and patient-empowered sharing of health information for all. Shift was founded in 2018, formalized in early 2020, and is in the process of attaining formal 501(c)(3) non-profit status.
Our Mission:
To advance safe and patient-empowered sharing of health information for all.
Our Vision:
To further a health care ecosystem in which better technology for clinical data sharing increases trust between patients, providers, and caregivers to improve health quality and outcomes.
A Collaborative of Cross-Domain Experts
Shift's diverse expert stakeholders include almost 300 representatives of health care organizations, professional societies, standards development organizations, health IT vendors, health information exchanges (HIEs) and other interoperability frameworks, payers, government, government and non-government contractors, privacy, law and ethics experts, and patient advocates, among others.
